Editorial and ranking policy.
How ItemPrism researches buying guidance, organizes offers, handles commercial relationships, and corrects mistakes.
Updated September 2026Product identity comes first
Offers should only be grouped when available identifiers and specifications support that they describe the same product or an explicitly equivalent bundle. We use model numbers, GTIN or UPC, MPN, brand, generation, capacity, voltage, and other specifications when available.
Similar titles or stock photos alone are not enough to establish equivalence.
Condition is normalized, not erased
Seller language is mapped into broad groups such as New, Open Box, Refurbished, Used, and As-Is so that offers can be compared. The original seller wording and condition notes remain important because testing, cosmetic wear, completeness, and repair history vary inside each group.
Ranking principles
ItemPrism is designed to keep the comparison inputs visible. Depending on the selected sort mode, an offer may be organized by known total price, savings, or relevance. No unexplained score replaces the underlying condition, seller, warranty, return, shipping, and freshness information.
- Known total starts with item price plus known mandatory shipping before tax.
- Expired and unavailable offers should be removed from active comparisons.
- Commercial relationships do not change source-supplied factual fields.
- Sponsored placements, if offered, must be clearly marked and separated from organic logic.
Buying guides
Editorial guides are written to help shoppers evaluate risk and total value. They are not individual financial, legal, safety, installation, or repair advice. When a product has recall, compatibility, or installation implications, users should verify current information with the manufacturer, qualified professional, or responsible authority.
Corrections
We want data and explanations to be correct. Report an inaccurate listing, broken merchant link, factual error, or unclear policy through the Contact page. Material corrections should be made promptly and source integrations should be adjusted when a repeatable mapping problem is found.
